At the beginning of the pandemic, ProA, with the assistance of Fundación Starlite, took action leveraging their contact network in order to support the initiatives directed towards reducing the devastating effects of Covid-19.

This is how the Covid-19 Chair was able to be created, with the objective of studying the effects of Covid-19 and improving its treatment. This collaboration was possible by joining together 4 main key factors:

• Medical experience: The Prof. Álvarez de Mon and his team provided their experience helping patients infected with Covid at the Hospital Universitario Príncipe de Asturias in Alcalá de Henares.
• Data: HM Hospitals shared their anonymous database in order to carry out the study.
• Analytic capability: ProA’s Advisors contributed with their data analysis skills.
• The financial capacity of ProA and its portfolio companies to fund these studies.

The first result of the study was a predictive tool that helped the doctors prioritize treatments based on oxygen saturation and blood tests. This predictive algorithm is based on the study https://www.mdpi.com/2075-4426/11/1/36. Our portfolio company Ibermática played an major role by altruistically designing an app that made the research accessible to the health personnel.

Later on, the study https://www.mdpi.com/2227-9059/9/11/1675 was published. It describes the immune system’s response to Covid-19 with the objective of improving the treatments applied. This study was carried out based on the analysis of the blood serum of the patients in the hospital in Alcalá de Henares.
